RMR: Rick’s Rant – Teen Suicide – Next steps

October 27th, 2011 by jevon No comments »

From a previous blog entry I am posting to let you know what my first actions have been.

1)  wrote the blog article

2) Contacted another coach who I thought would also have an interest in this area to have a discussion to see if they had any thoughts/ideas/suggestions for how I might be take positive resulting actions.

3) Spoke to a co-worker who put me in touch with a teacher who is passionate about addressing ‘Bullying’ named Bill Belsey (see http://bullying.org)

4) on this above website began researching and learning more about what is going on already to see how I might contribute.

Watch this blog for more updates on actions taken with regard to the issues of Bullying and Teen Suicide

RMR: Rick’s Rant – Teen Suicide – YouTube

October 26th, 2011 by jevon 2 comments »

Many of us will watch this and say things like “Right On”, “Its about time somebody said somthing”, or “Thank you Rick Mercer”.

The problem is how many of us will ‘Do’ something about this situation.

I am reminded of an entry in the blog “Stuff White People Like”

An interesting fact about white people is that they firmly believe that all of the world’s problems can be solved through “awareness.”  Meaning the process of making other people aware of problems, and then magically someone else like the government will fix it. (http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/01/23/18-awareness/)

How many Canadians are content to think, ‘Well Rick Mercer said somthing on TV so that should fix it’.  To quote George R. R. Martin “Words are wind.”  However it is actions that Matter.

So while I agree it’s an important message,  what actions can we and will we take to help prevent Teen suicides in the future?

What can I do about this?  I don’t know how I’m going to do this yet, but I commit to finding a way that I can have an affect on our society regarding this topic.  I will find an action and I will take it.

So, “Thank you Rick.  I’ll let you know what action’s I am taking as I come to them.”

Stay tuned for updates.

Wishing for brilliance

October 6th, 2011 by jevon No comments »

Wishing I had something brilliant to say. Wanting to say the thing that makes it all better, that makes it make sense and gives hope and inspiration to you.

Where does this desire come from?

The belief that you need me to say this brilliant thing. That without my words, you will give up or you will continue hurt or you will feel alone.

That as a friend I must say this brilliant thing or you won’t know that I am with you, behind you and here for you if you need me. If I fail to be everything I think you need me to be then how will you carry on and how will I carry on? The belief that you might discount me as a friend because I wasn’t there for you.

What stops me from filling the void with noise and things that I hope will help?

The belief that you are more than adequate to the task, journey or situation in front of you. That you are learning about yourself and who you are. That, through these learnings and experiences, you are growing and becoming all that you can be and more.

That you don’t need me to say anything, do anything, be anything other than my best self. The knowledge that although my intentions may be to be there for you the unintended consequences of such actions could limit your opportunities to learn and grow.

The Gift!

The gift in this situation is for me to be present to my own journey and my own learnings. To realize once again that I can be of service without having to do anything other than ‘Be’ present to my journey and leave you to be present to yours.

Thank you for this gift. Thank you for this opportunity and for all of the future opportunities to come as we continue to Journey together.

“…Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the poem “Our Deepest Fear” by Marianne Williamson the title of this article comes from that poem. (http://skdesigns.com/internet/articles/quotes/williamson/our_deepest_fear/)

Recently I started a men’s group to support me on my journey and for me to support other men on theirs. As expected this group is having a profound effect on me and my life. After only 3 meetings I am being inspired and challenged to engage more in my life and to play my “A-Game”.

One of the areas in my life, that has been a struggle for me, is to take good care of my self physically. I mean exercise and nutrition. I have spent 2 years researching, investigating, creating the space but I have never started or sustained a physical health ritual for me.

That has now changed. Yesterday I made the commitment to start developing the habits and rituals for my physical health. This is an area that I know I can have a profound effect on all of the areas of my life if I just engage in it. This means that I will be conscious about when and what I eat and I will regularly take exercise.

The first two rituals that I am committing to completing each and every day are my morning ritual and my evening ritual. ( I know its not rocket surgery). The morning ritual involves spending a few minutes getting conscious about who I am, what my purpose is and how am I going to engage it today. The evening ritual is about journaling my day and how I lived my purpose this day and being mindful of where I am.

After my first morning ritual I have noticed that My day seems to be colored very differently. All that I changed was spending 120 seconds saying my Mission/Vision/Values and setting an intention for how I would engage the day. It’s amazing. I truly feel brilliant today. Like I can take on all challengers.

Getting started is only part of the challenge though. I also need to sustain this and thats when a buddy sent me the latest video cast from “One Warrior Nation” which features a former wrestler known as “The Ultimate Warrior”. In this cast he made the following statement: “Intensity! Passion for something will out do, will win out over, knowledge, skills, talent, natural talent, natural gifts, every single time.” I agree with this statement. I have also heard people say that I need some pain or discomfort to get them to change. To move away form a painful situation. I can also see this as a motivator, but I do not believe that it is as powerful a motivator as moving toward something you cannot live without. Sustainability must come from moving towards something because as I move away from something it becomes less painful and less of a motivator.

So…What am I moving towards? My “A-Game”. My Greatness. My passion.

If you are interested in pursuing your “A-Game” or would like to be apart of a mens group please contact me. I’m only too happy to share and explore with you.

Walk in Peace.

What are you grateful for?

July 21st, 2011 by jevon No comments »

What are you grateful for?

This question was posed by one of my Facebook friends today. Today in particular though it got me thinking as I initially drew a blank on the answer. On reflection I found many things that I am grateful for, but I wasn’t foremost in my thoughts. A good reminder that what you focus on grows.

What are you proud of?

The question I ask now instead of or in conjunction with is, What are you proud of?

Today I am proud that I was able to manifest a men’s group for my self and that we have started to meet. I am looking forward to awesome experiences with this group and stepping up how I choose to live. I am proud that I took the chance and put it out there that this is what I wanted. That I listened to my heart and rather than shying away from what it called for I moved through my fear and went for it. I feel very rewarded for this choice.

I am proud of my marriage. My spouse and I have worked very hard on this over the years and put in the care and attention it required. The result is a marriage that works for us and supports us and is a source of joy, energy and yes pride!

When you look at who you are and how you choose to spend your time what are you proud of? If your child, or your 5-year old self, were to look at your life what would they be proud of?

If asking this question has you feeling that you would like to create more of your life that you could be proud of then I can possibly be of service as a coach. If you would like to talk with me to see how we might work together then drop me a line at jevon@thewarriorsvoice.com and lets connect to see how we might work together.

Walk in peace and walk proud!

Men’s Group, Now Forming — Looking for a Few Interested Men

June 25th, 2011 by jevon No comments »

Do you feel that you have untapped potential and are ready to “step it up” in your life?

Are you tired of living a mediocre life, and KNOW you could be playing a “bigger game”?

Have you ever wished you had A Circle of Men who you met with regularly, who “had your back” and were committed to your greatness as a man?

A Circle of Men who:

  • You feel free and safe to drop your “social mask” and GET REAL around
  • Don’t buy the excuses you tell yourself to justify “playing small” in your life?
  • Compassionately “call you out” when you’re bullshitting yourself or others
  • Offer moral and emotional support through the challenges we all face as men (no pity parties, though)
  • Will be honest, direct and authentic about how they experience you
  • Will demand your best, and expect that you demand the best out of them
  • Will strengthen your relationships with ALL other men (which is CRITICAL for your success with women, btw)
  • Offer insightful feedback on your life situation and relationship with career, women, family, money, etc.
  • You can bring your biggest challenges to them, without being judged, shamed or ridiculed
  • Challenge you to “play a big game” in your life, take risks, face your fears and push your edges to help you grow as a man and as a human being – and expect the same of you

If this sounds like something you’d interested in, then we should talk.

Who and What Are We?

No, this is not a cult.
This is not a support group.
This is not a multi-level marketing scam.  It’s free, and always will be.
And while we love the movie, this is not a “Fight Club”.

* Sorry ladies, men only.

This is about men supporting men in being the most powerful, authentic, open-hearted men they can be, and to give their deepest gifts to the world and live lives that they can be proud of.

Find out More!

If you’re interested, please send us an email to mensgroup@thewarriorsvoice.com with your contact information and answer the following questions.

1 Month After

May 26th, 2011 by jevon No comments »

A quick review for those that have not been kept in the loop:

April marked the end of my coach training program which I graduated and became a Certified Professional Coach. On graduation I had enough ours to apply for an internationally recognized credential from the International Coach Federation (ICF). So I became a member of the ICF and applied for my credential.

On May 25th I received confirmation of my Associate Certified Coach (ACC) Credential.

If this were not exciting enough I began the work on starting my Men’s Group and unofficially started this group. This has been incredibly motivating and inspirational.

The purpose of this mens group is to gather a few men who want to up their game, or play their ‘A-Game’ and to be proud of who we are as individuals and as a group. The group would be meet regularly and support each other in being our best selves, challenging each other to grow and step up and holding each other accountable when we are not being the best we can be.

I’m now beginning to move forward and get the mens group into full operation and can hardly wait to see what will come out of this.

1 Month to go

March 13th, 2011 by jevon No comments »

Just enjoying a morning cup of coffee and taking a look at where I am.

Ever present in my life right now is my coach training. It started back in 2008, changed direction in 2010 and is now coming to completion in a month. There are several celebrations I wish to share and I want to share enough of the details with you so that you may understand it, and not to much detail otherwise it will be a 15 part series.

Some back ground on coaching to start. There is an organization which exists called International Coach Federation (ICF). This organization server several purposes, one of which is to create a standard by which coaches can measure themselves and people looking for a coach can have some understanding of who the coach is and what the coach has done. There are many programs that you can take to learn about coaching. Some of these have been approved by the ICF and some haven’t. Then even if you have completed a coach training program the ICF understands that the real learning and growth as a coach happens when we practice our coaching over many hours and the ICF has created a set of credentials which may be obtained as the coach develops and grows through their practice.

I chose to pursue my coach training with The Demers Group and their CORE ALIGNMENT™ Professional Coach Training program. This program has been approved by the ICF and therefore completing and graduating from this program will grant me the Certified Professional Coach certification. This means I have knowledge of what it means to be a coach, how to coach with in the ICF required ethics and guidelines and have completed approximately 35 hours of coaching. With just a little over 1 month left I only have a few assignments and exams left to complete to graduate and they are well in hand.

My graduation will be a point of celebration for me and my class. We have all worked very hard and moved through many challenges. We should all be proud of our accomplishments and I expect that we are.

My goal, when I registered for coach training, was to be able to apply for my first credential on graduation. As I mentioned above the ICF recognizes the coach and their practice with credentials and the first credential requires completion of an approved training program plus 100 hours of coaching. This past week I completed my first 100 hours of coaching. This means for me is that I can apply for my Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential upon graduating in April.

I am very proud of the work I have done, the milestones I have passed and will pass shortly, in this program and in my life. More than these achievements though I am proud of who I am and who I have become. It was through my own journey with coaching that I decided to further my skills and become a coach and this lead me to live in a much larger world.

Many thanks and much gratitude to the universe…you all know who you are.

January 22nd, 2011 by jevon No comments »

Greetings,

I hope that your 2011 is of to a stellar start. The holiday season was a particularly happy one for me (one of the best in memory) as I spent it with good friends, both old and new, and family and enjoyed the time together.

As you may know I’m in the mist of my formal training as a coach, with CAC-Demers Group, which I started last July.
I’m now about 2/3s complete in my training and really enjoying the journey. I anticipate being a Certified Professional Coach by mid April.

As part of my training I’m looking for those who would like to make use my services as a coach. I have several required sessions which remain to complete my training and need the help of those who are looking experience their fullest lives. If you, or anyone you know, would be interested learning about coaching and potentially being coached I would welcome a chance speak with them in a free consultation.

I am offering a training discount of $50/hr session or a monthly rate of $120 between now and April. If you join me now I will continue this discounted rate until the end of June as a gift of gratitude for your assistance.

I hope to hear from you as time allows and wish you a pleasant, and much warmer, weekend.
