It’s been a few weeks since my last blog entry or podcast and I’ve realized that my daily responsibilities and tasks have distracted me from living on purpose. I have a job which takes up much of my time plus responsibilities and jobs outside of work like home maintenance, bills, chores, etc. which keep me pretty busy. So I’m wondering how I can keep focus on my purpose (in this case blogging, podcasting and workshop creation) while still accomplishing my other tasks.
I don’t currently have an answer for my self that works. Every thing I’m doing seems important to me, but perhaps not to my purpose. The question I have to ask my self, and we can all ask our selves, is: “Am I living on purpose doing what I’m doing, or is what I’m doing distracting me from living on purpose?”
In “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” by Dan Millman, Socrates says “A Warrior does not give up what he loves. He finds the love in what he does.” Using this as a basis of logic I can conclude that if my Daily jobs, tasks and responsibilities are contributing to my purpose then I don’t need to change what I’m doing, but if they are not then I need to ask why I’m doing these things.
So if I feel I’m being distracted then I should look at the things, which are not required for me, and my family to live, and see if I’m doing too much. “Doing too much” is one of my common issues. I always seem to take on too much, if there is some available time I fill it with more stuff to do. Perhaps the projects around the house could hold off to give me time to continue regularly updating my blog and podcast. This doesn’t mean I wont do the special projects around the house, but I don’t have to do them right now.
So perhaps I should have called this blog “Distractions I CHOOSE Which Keep Me from Living On PURPOSE”.
Any ways it looks like I’ve got some personal reflecting to do around what to let go of so that I can keep focused.
Walk In Peace,
Warrior Jevon:In-Service
